Salem Trolley

Salem Trolley has helped visitors find their bearings in the Witch City since 1982. Salem’s original red trolley offers a narrated one-hour journey covering roughly eight miles, connecting the story of the 1692 witch trials with the city’s maritime, literary, and architectural history. Local guides mix well-researched history with useful context, making the trolley a welcoming first stop for visitors deciding what to explore next.

Along the route, riders pass many of Salem’s best-known places, including the Charter Street Burial Ground, The House of the Seven Gables, Salem’s historic waterfront, the Salem Witch Museum, and Chestnut Street. The trolley tour is a sightseeing experience; admission to individual museums and attractions is separate.

Regular day tours operate from spring through fall, with limited Friday–Sunday service in November. Tours begin near the National Park Service Visitor Center at 2 New Liberty Street, although the starting location can change during busy October dates and street closures. Holiday and private trolley experiences

During the holiday season, groups can inquire about private trolley experiences for viewing holiday lights, caroling, parades, and family gatherings. The company also offers private charters for weddings, celebrations, school groups, and other events aboard its replica turn-of-the-century trolleys. Salem Trolley also presents its annual interactive production of A Christmas Carol with The Gallows Hill Theatre. The 40th-season production runs November 28–December 23, 2026, with multiple performances each day.

Accessibility

A portion of the Salem Trolley fleet is wheelchair accessible, and advance notice is recommended so an appropriately equipped trolley can be scheduled. Collapsible wheelchairs are permitted on all trolleys, and staff can assist with loading.
