Why Choose North Shore Glass School for Holiday Experiences in Salem

North Shore Glass School stands apart as Salem’s premier destination for glass art education and creation. What makes our studio special for holiday gift-giving and seasonal creativity? Our experienced instructors bring decades of professional glass artistry to every class, ensuring that first-time students and returning artists alike receive expert guidance and personalized attention. Matthew Cronin, co-founder and lead instructor, studied visual arts at the University of Hartford and spent seven years as studio manager and senior instructor at Boston’s respected Diablo Glass School before opening North Shore Glass School. His work has been displayed in museums, galleries, and private collections throughout the country.

Our diverse offerings cover every major glass art technique. Whether you’re drawn to the dramatic art of glassblowing, the precision of stained glass, the delicate work of flameworking, or the colorful creativity of fused glass, we provide the tools, materials, and expertise to bring your vision to life. This comprehensive approach allows you to explore multiple glass mediums or delve deep into a specific technique, creating varied holiday gifts or perfecting a single skill.

The holiday season brings special magic to our studios. Our seasonal workshops feature festive projects perfect for gift-giving or home decoration. Create blown glass ornaments in your choice of colors and styles, craft fused glass jewelry with holiday themes, design stained glass suncatchers that capture winter light, or shape flameworked pieces that become conversation-starting decorations. Every item you make carries the personal touch that mass-produced gifts cannot match.

Small class sizes ensure that our instructors provide individual attention. Unlike crowded craft experiences, our workshops maintain intimate groups, allowing instructors to provide hands-on guidance, answer questions, and help you achieve professional-quality results. Our welcoming atmosphere puts nervous beginners at ease while challenging experienced students to expand their skills. Ages 10 and up can participate in most daytime glassblowing classes, with evening classes reserved for adults. This makes it a versatile option for family activities, date nights, or solo creative time.

Holiday Glass Art Classes & Gift Ideas

Glassblowing Experiences

Our glassblowing studio offers the quintessential glass art experience. Watch molten glass glow in the furnace at 2,100 degrees, then shape it yourself under expert guidance. Holiday glassblowing sessions include creating custom ornaments, decorative paperweights, seasonal pumpkins, colorful bowls, and unique vases. Choose from our signature blow-your-own experiences or enroll in our comprehensive four-week introductory glassblowing course that runs on Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:00pm. Each session provides all materials, tools, and safety equipment, with finished pieces ready for pickup after annealing.

Fused Glass Workshops

Fused glass classes teach you to cut, arrange, and layer glass that fuses together in our kilns, creating jewelry, bowls, plates, coasters, and ornamental pieces. Perfect for creating holiday gifts, these workshops result in vibrant, functional art pieces. Popular holiday projects include fused glass sushi sets, decorative drape bowls, seasonal dishes, and wearable art including pendants, earrings, and pins. The process combines technical skill with artistic expression, allowing you to design pieces in your preferred colors and styles.

Flameworking Classes

Traditionally called lampworking, flameworking uses a torch to manipulate glass rods into intricate designs. Our Halloween-themed ghost and goblin workshops prove popular year-round, while holiday sessions focus on creating custom wine stoppers, decorative figurines, and glass beads for jewelry. This precise technique produces detailed pieces perfect for special gifts or collections. Ages 12 and up can participate, with no prior experience required.

Stained Glass Instruction

Stained glass workshops introduce the timeless craft of cutting, grinding, and soldering glass pieces into beautiful compositions. Create suncatchers, decorative panels, or functional art pieces using traditional techniques. Similar to fused glass in initial steps, stained glass requires learning to solder pieces together for a stunning finished appearance. These classes work wonderfully for creating personalized holiday decorations that catch and transform natural light.

Holiday Ornament Workshops, November–December

North Shore Glass School runs holiday classes throughout November and December. Every weekend brings “blow your own ornament” workshops: two-hour glassblowing and fused glass ornament-making classes, flameworking ornament classes, and stained glass ornament classes. In December, blow-your-own-ornament workshops are also offered on Wednesdays and Fridays.

See every upcoming date and book a spot on the school’s Holiday Glass Art Classes page.
